The growing and changing happening in my home right now is mind-blowing. For all of us, really.

Kyle has begun some significant life-changing moves in terms of health and healing. I’m really proud of him.

I’ve been on a similar path since November of last year and have managed to save my gallbladder, lose 45 pounds, go gleefully gluten-free, and unlock a deeper understanding of myself on several levels.

Dempsey is just exploding in her understanding of her world, her family, her likes and dislikes, her communication. Everything. You can just see her growing and stretching every minute of the day. It’s almost unimaginable.

And Delaney is just thriving. In every way. She is the manifestation of every nontraditional (read: questioned and sometimes mocked by others) decision I’ve ever made in my life and that Kyle and I have made as parents. It’s blissful to watch her grow, even when her growth means her asserting herself in ways that drive me crazy.

Today, she was working on a kids journal book I bought her, and one of the questions was asking how many upper and lower teeth she had. I knew the answer: 20. But I told her I’d count anyway. I looked in her mouth and started to count from the back: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 . . . wait a minute.
